Below are reasons I think Christmas should be in July
1. Emalei and Fabio:
a. 4 hours late leaving Zurich
b. missed flight, Friday night, out of JFK to Seattle - -was re-routed
c. arrived in Seattle at 7am (just 3 hours before Fabio's graduation from Law School
2. Abbie and Scott
a. flight from Atlanta to Portland cancelled on Monday
b. could not get to Portland (Christmas with Scott's family) until 27th
c. was re-routed to SLC and then couldn't get to Pasco until noon the 25th (was going
to switch week visits with Scott's family)
"JACKPOT - - Delta called them in SLC to say they could get them on to Portland on
the 11am flight Tuesday morning- - all is well with their Christmas plans.
d. received call from Abbie that flight out of SLC was over one hour late because of deicing. Traffic at airport is bumper to bumper of slow moving cars.
3. Dale
a. last final was cancelled at Gonzaga due to 2 1/2 feet of snow on Thursday
b. flight to Syracuse (spending the week with Bill's ill sister in the hospital)
was cancelled Friday - -was rescheduled to go from Pasco on Sunday morning at 5:20
c. drove home on Friday from Spokane aka: North Pole while his mother was a nervous
wreck.
d. had to drive Dale to the Pasco airport at 3:45am on Sunday because Bill was on
call and couldn't leave home. Drove 40mph the whole way. Returned home to find out
church was cancelled - - and I was out on the roads by myself!!
e. flight from JFK to Syracuse was delayed 2 1/2 hrs - -finally made it at 11:40pm
into Syracuse NY
4. Dane and Bridget
a. flight on Thursday, to Spokane, was cancelled - -was re-routed to Seattle Friday
morning.
Their's is the luckiest story because Bill and I were going to Seattle to Fabio's
graduation and was able to pick them up and bring them home.
5. Bill and Janet
a. arrived home, from Seattle 2 hours before Snolqualmie Pass was closed - it was a
nail biting trip home.
b. four kids trying to get home in record "Arctic Blast" conditions is more stress than a parent should have to go through.
c. we still are holding our breath that Dale and Abbie will arrive safe and without incident on the 28th,to join the family for holiday celebration.
IT'S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR As long as you have no where to go!!!

We are so happy to be where we are going for Christmas. Funny thing about this year is that we are only 30 miles from my parents and we're not sure we'll get over to see them for a couple of days because of the roads and weather (and they might not be there anyway)! Last year we almost spent Christmas in Rawlins. Wouldn't that have been fun?! So yeah, we know all about your nail-biting days of hoping your kids all get there! I'm glad everyone has made it to their first destinations! Merry Christmas!
So it took nearly two hours to get home from the airport... a normal 25 minute trip in good weather. Chains on the tires kept us at about 30 mph but then, right before we hit the temple, the freeway turned to ice/packed snow/ruts at least 6-8 inches high/deep. I will be taking pictures today. I have never seen anything like this!!! We're sooooo happy to be here though!
ohh my...that is crazy! I agree it is the most wonderful time of the year if you don't have anywhere to go :) So fun all your kids will be home during the holidays!
We're praying with you that everyone makes it there safe and sound. Have a very Merry Christmas, even if it is in December!
Oh Janet, can I ditto your comments? We didn't have as many mishaps, but even one is too many. Aaron trying to drive to SL from Mesa, calls about 11 pm, his car has hit some black ice and spun off the road. He's in a remote place, no cell service, gets a ride to Jacob Lake, calls a tow truck. Luckily it ended well, no significant car damage, he is not hurt, but spends Christmas Eve in a Days Inn outside of Cedar City. Nail biting for moms? You bet! I'm all for Christmas being celebrated on Memorial Day weekend.
