Anyway, yesterday he had just finished a 24 hour shift at Kadlec and upon arriving home, he asked if I'd teach him how to make bread. He loves to cook and bake and this was one thing he couldn't do. I thought it was kind of cute so I said sure. I got the recipe out and talked him through each step. This is the old fashioned way to make bread. No bread maker - - just a hand mixer, a wooden spoon and your hands. He was very attentive and it turned out perfect. The dough raised well and the loaves looked perfect.
We enjoyed some bread for dinner and he took a loaf to a lady he home teaches. When he got home from delivering the loaf of bread, he announced that he was going to make another batch of bread. He started another 24 hour shift this morning and he wanted to take some to work for the nurses. He's frequently taking something to work for them to eat.
These are the loaves that came out of the oven at 9:15pm. Don't they look great. He didn't want my help the second time around. He said he'd ask if he had any questions. He still has some mastering to do with the kneading but other than that he was a natural. He assured me he'd let the nurses know that I had taught him how to make the bread. They will be impressed, I'm sure.

You know how to contact us if you need to make reservations for a fresh batch of homemade bread.

I'm impressed. I want some of that bread! It looks so yummy. Way to go Uncle Bill!
So cute!!!! I don't know why, but it totally surprised me that dad all the sudden wanted to learn how to make bread. After 31 years he finally has the desire?! And then he took some to the nurses. Oh, such a cute dad!
Boy, I'm pretty impressed with the results. Very nice William. That must have been some teacher you had.
I didn't have an actual assignment growing up to make bread, but I definitely made a lot of the bread we ate, eight loaves at a time. Our dad loved homemade bread. One of his favorite things to do with fresh bread was to break it up and pour cold milk over it. I certainly didn't mind it like that, but it wasn't a fave of mine.
Two questions about making reservations: 1) Can I use your mileage credits to come pick it up? 2) Does the offer include sleeping AND internet accommodations?

(Janet: Your comment about your breadmaking skills might not be that far from the truth... What dish was it that sealed the deal for you? Sweet & Sour Meatballs or Lemon Pound Cake?)

Isn't it great that you two can do these things and enjoy them. I imagined your sitting there reading the instructions and laughing. That's what I love about your relationship with Bill. You laugh a lot.
