Well, I don't have any pictures to show, yet, but thought I'd share a bit of what I have observed that would endear me to this beautiful place. I'm going to copy Emalei's post from about a month ago.
THINGS I LIKE ABOUT SWITZERLAND
1. The old buildings and the history behind them.) I can't believe all the churches and buildings that have clocks on them.
2. The beautiful countryside
3. The fact that everyone walks (even the older people who need the help of a cane),rides a bike, takes the train or the bus. (Heaven forbid that we would have to take public transit in the US
4. You make a deposit for the use of your grocery cart and get the money back when you return it. This sure eleviates a parking lot full of stray carts.
5. I love the heated floors. (at least Em's apartment has them)
6. There are no homeless people laying around
7. People just seem to enjoy being out- - - they don't need to be going anywhere - - they just are out as families walking.
8. You keep the speed limit or get a ticket. The speed limit is the limit and not a km over. The cameras are everywhere to catch in the act. It's real nice to not have speading cars pass you by.
9. The people look happy and are friendly.
10. Fabio's GPS system.
11.THe beautiful lakes and streams.
12. I love the sound of German. I think it would be a fun language to learn.
13. The fact that everyone wears a coat, scarf and gloves when it is cold outside. It's the smart thing to do and you don't look dumb for doing it.
That's a few of the things that we are enjoying and experiencing. How fun it is to be in another country. We feel blessed
I'll post pictures when we get home.

Good post mom. I always thought I would like German. Hearing people speak it is cool. Hearing about other countries makes me not like America as much. We are lazy! The shopping cart thing made me think of that and the lack of use of public transportation and walking.
RE: Shopping cart thing - I didn't pay attention to that I guess when Em originally posted. You see that in Syracuse and its suburbs but not because it keeps them from being left in the parking lot but rather to discourage stealing them. Sad. Unfortunately, that's the reason here. We have a ways to go to become as responsible as citizens of some other countries.
I remember my first work day here in Syracuse in Jan 1992. I arrived at work and everyone was friendly and welcoming. Someone asked how I'd gotten to the office. I replied "I walked." "Walked? You walked to the building?" Walking was very foreign to them. In their defense, they did not live within walking distance.

I don't know if it was intentional at all Janet, but the 'secret' word to type for my previous post was "flabb." Ironic or what!!
