CROWN CLUB KING

We travel enough that Bill always has enough dollars spent, each year, to qualify him for a years membership in the Crown Club Rooms. Let me tell you, it has been nice to be his travel companion and benefit from traveling with a 'big shot'. We feel put out when there isn't a crown club room in an airport (Delta has closed many of their crown club room). Well, this past November, when we traveled to Switzerland to see Emalei, we connected through Paris. We went to the crown club and were told that because it was the crown club for another airlines, we couldn't get in with our Delta card. We had been flying all night and were looking forward to a snack and a comfortable chair and restroom that wasn't used by the whole airport. Bill walked away disgusted and determined to let Delta know what happened. I figured there was nothing we could do so I just found a series of seats in a row and made myself comfortable.

I answered the phone this past Friday and was introduced to ????? from Delta. They had received a letter of complaint from Bill about not being able to get into the Paris crown club room. She told me that Delta does have privileges there and they will look into it. She asked if I was a club member and I told her no. Well, she explained that in Paris you can't let a guest in with you. I explained to her that they wouldn't even let Bill in. She apologized and told me she would like to send me a one day pass to a crown club room - - good for a year. I figured 'what the heck'. Sure, that would be nice. Thank you!! We said our good byes and hung up. The phone rang no longer than 2 minutes later. The Delta representative introduced herself to me again and said that as she thought about our conversation she realised that she could make me another offer that I could make a choice from. I could have the one day pass to the crown club room or have a $75 travel credit voucher. I thought gee, I'd rather have the $75 because I can always get into a crown club room with Bill. She took our e-mail address and said a voucher would be sent within minutes.

Sure enough, here they came not just for me but one for Bill also. $150 in travel vouchers just because we had to sit for an hour in the Paris airport with all the other passengers. That was worth it and I was so proud of myself for getting us the money rather than the one day pass. Bill beamed when I told him the story and immediately discussed a way that we could use the vouchers. He's an expert when it comes to getting a good deal in flying. So there .......to the French. Turn us away, if you will, but we got the better end of the deal. I just hope Delta puts you in your place. In the meantime, the vouchers are in the travel folder and are burning a hole in Bill's pocket. He has planned several ways to use them in just 4 short days.

Cool!! I guess it is just a great lesson learned that a letter can be helpful. I am glad he took the time to write down his feelings and send it in. You lucky ducks....get to planning. We miss you already.

Way to go Bill. Make sure you post on your next vacation, I will be living it through your blog, seeing how I won't be going anywhere for a long time! I will share my twins, and you can share your vacation!

There is just something about your family and getting vouchers for everything...Looks like I married well.
Way to go. It's amazing what you can get when you put up a tiff. :)

That's way awesome. I always feel that if you don't have a good experience write a letter of (kind) complaint. The worst they can do is not reply or say no.

I completely agree with Abbie (as you know). You had every right to complain about a service Bill earned but that they (the dumb parisians) didn't provide.

When Harold used to fly all the time he had a pass too. One year we even splurged with his FF miles and we got a pass for me as well. Man oh man I was in heaven. Even when I would just go to the airport to pick Harold up, if his flight got delayed or whatever, I would just go hang in the Crown Room.

Harold should have known better than to marry such a high maintenance woman! :)
