We are finishing our third summer in our new home. Can you believe it? We have over 110 plants in our landscaping. Don't ask me what happened because one of our goals in moving was to downsize. We didn't have half that many plants in Sunnyside. Anyway, I've heard that the third year is when plants reach their maturity and mature they did. We have always done our own pruning and yard care. By mid summer, it was getting to be too much for me to take care of and so Bill talked me into getting in touch with a gardener who would come and prune the plants and pull weeds etc. I found one, he gave us an estimate and we hired him for the job. Two and a half weeks passed and he was so booked he hadn't come back. I decided to intervene and pruned all the rose bushes myself - - all 23 of them. (Don't ask how we got that many) My back was aching and my butt muscles were so sore it hurt to sit. Luckily he came the next day and asked if we still wanted him. YES!!!! He said he'd get his dad to come and help him and he'd be back later that day. What a weight off my shoulders. You should have seen the job they did. When we prune, we lay plastic around the plants so we don't have to clean up the trimmings. Not these guys!!!!!! They just prune and then pick up the trimmings with their hands. He came and told us he'd be back the next day to finish up. Bill and I walked around and were amazed at what a great job they did. It was unbelievable. Well........they left and about 30 minutes later, he came back and dropped his dad off with a shop vac. Can you believe it? He went around the yard and vacuumed up the leftover trimmings that he couldn't get with his hands. Bill said he felt so bad that he wanted to tell him not to worry about it -- with one small breeze, they would all blow away. I was hoping that since I had done alot of the pruning myself that he would take some money off what our estimate was. Bill told me that after seeing them vacuum he couldn't bare to ask for a reduction in price. Like Dale told me, "those guys treat what they do almost in a reverent manner" That is true. I felt guilty sitting in my house sneaking pictures through the window while he was outside vacuuming my yard. Have you ever??????????/
I love your pictures. I am betting those guys would feel pretty proud if they knew you were bragging about what great gardeners they are. I think it's cute that he is out there with a shop vac, getting all the left over pieces.
It sure is nice to see the yard come to maturity and blossom, it makes me so happy.
The yard looks fantastic. I think it's wonderful to see people with such great work ethics because I know I would not be out there that determined... maybe if I were getting paid... maybe.

I agree w/Dale. Reminds me of a book (of course): The Holiness of Everyday Life.
Kind of restores your faith in mankind!
