Bill was starting his anesthesia training at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and Emalei was due on April 16. We arrived in town at 10pm on the 26th of March and I was in the beginning stages of labor. I hadn't seen the town, our house, the hospital, my new doctor nor did I know a soul. Long story short - - this sweet little baby girl (we didn't know back then what we were having) started the journey of life with us at 2:40pm on the 27th. What a sweet baby. Bill and I were soooo homesick. Having this new experience in our life and no one there to share it with us. That didn't last long........word got out in the ward about us and I had visitors at the hospital and a baby shower when Emalei was 10days old. Many life long friends were made from those experiences.
So, today that little baby girl is 30 years old, is a college graduate, a return missionary, a school teacher (which I feel strongly is a gift from God) She was born to be a teacher and has blessed the lives of many students in Washington DC, inner city schools in LA, Jewish children in Seattle and now international students in Switzerland. We love you Emalei and are so proud of you.
This is where the birthday girl will be spending her birthday. The Neuschwanstein Castle in the Bavarian state of Germany near the German border with Austria. What a way to begin a new decade in your life. It's the castle for the inspiration of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland in CA. It's just a 2 1/2 hour drive from where they live. How quaint!!

HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY EM-DOGGY!! Funny story: so yesterday, Dane said, "Hey it's Emalei's Birthday tomorrow!"
I responded, "Your sister or mine?" (a little confused...)
and Dane, in a sarcastic tone that I did not recognize said, "Yours, Bridget."
"No it isn't I said, her birthday isn't until Sunday..."
And alas, we discovered that both our families will be celebrating birthdays of our beloved "Emily" sisters this week.
Just thought you might get a kick out of that :)
