What's Emalei Been Up To? Part II

Even though I spent Thanksgiving with most people who read this blog, I thought for the sake of the others I didn't see that I would provide a brief update...It has been a while!

I love, repeat love, my job at Seattle Hebrew Academy. I have never enjoyed a job so much. I feel like this job is an incredible blessing. The students are smart and so much fun, the people I work with are kind and sincere. It's the most peaceful school I've ever been in and I was telling someone the other day (a member of the church) that I wonder sometimes if the spirit dwells there. That's what it feels like...peaceful and happy.

I recently took the GRE and will be applying to graduate schools in the next few months. I certainly plan on staying in Seattle unless some amazing opportunity presents itself elsewhere.

Last but not least, I will be spending Christmas in beautiful upstate NY! YAY! NY does have the reputation of being quite nasty in December, take winter 2000 for example when I was there tracting out Batavia in massive snowstorms...however, since I won't have to be outside knocking doors, the snow and cold actually sound quite cozy, and I'll be with my favorite of all favorite aunts! We've already started planning activities, including church site seeing, movie watching and just plain "laying low". As dad would say, "Starting slow and tapering off." Can't wait.

So...that's the latest with me. Life's good, I'm happy, and the coming month presents many more things to be excited about! YAY for the holiday season!

Em, what a blessing to love your job so much. It's too bad we didnt' get to see you while you were here. NY sounds like so much fun! Enjoy the season.

Emalei,
I have thought of you many times - your connection there with the Jewish community and your opportunity to come to know and understand them on a more personal level. I'm teaching the Old Testament in seminary this year and have often wondered just what it means to be a Jew today, a practicing, religious Jew. I've been fascinated with their holidays and festivals, the heritage of faith that we share with them, and their commitment to their religion.
Anyway, your job sounds very rewarding. And your Christmas plans are to envy! I think your 'very favorite of all favorite aunts' is mine also and I have yet to see/visit her abode. One of these days . . .

Let's give credit where credit is due: Cherlyn did make it to within approx 65 miles of her favorite aunt's abode - but it was summer so I don't know that we can totally count that. Actually, it was July and hotter than Hades and trust me, I'm the queen of how hot is hot! Give me cold any day.

As to my upcoming holiday plans, I'm thrilled to be graced with the presence of our family's burgeoning Hebrew scholar....

Years ago, the Deseret News carried a brief article comparing growth among Jews and Mormons. It pointed out that while Jews were losing ground in terms of growth due to their smaller family units, Mormons would continue to increase as a result of a higher birth rate and missionary labors.

Speaking of Mormons, anyone see L&O: SVU last night? Mormons weren't painted in the most favorable light...

Lastly, in addition to the laid-back holiday plans Emalei painted in her blog, here's a heads-up dear that there will be a few tasks awaiting you when you arrives....

THis is for Britty in case she reads it...

I still get slight Sunday night blues...but it's nothing like it used to be! I only feel blue because I have to get up early the next day.

And I live close to Ravenna! I live in Magnolia, just south of Ballard. Next time you're in the area, give me a call. Maybe we could meet for hot chocolate! Lots of fun cafes in this city! Here's my number: 310-746-8834
