I am officially full time Title 1 Coordinator at Seattle Hebrew Academy (SHA). Today was my last day as 5th grade general studies teacher and 6th grade science teacher. Rebecca has finished her maternity leave and will be back on January 2. It was a bittersweet day. These 5th graders are amazing! They are very bright, eager to learn and meet the standards set for them, full of personality and just...amazing! I have been able to do so many fun things with them that I could have NEVER done with my struggling (academically and behaviorally) students in L.A. This morning, a couple of girls (one of them was my little shadow, Esther...mom and dad know about her) came in saying, "Ohhhh...Miss Smith! It's your last day!" And they wouldn't let me forget it all day! I kept reminding them that I would be back in January, and that Morah Rebecca and I planned on me being there in the mornings to help out with math. But, it won't be the same. On January 2, I'll start working one on one with struggling students, some of them my 5th graders, and I'm actually really excited about it. For one, my schedule will be much less demanding! I'll actually be able to put time into planning lessons for these Title 1 students, instead of rushing into the learning center between my 5th and 6th grade classes!
As of now, I'm waiting for my ride (Melissa DeLeon) to the airport. I'm off to Syracuse for Christmas...one of favorite places! Well...not Syracuse, necessarily, but upstate NY...Palmyra, Fayette, etc. I feel very fortunate that my travel agent dad found a ticket he could buy with my Delta points! Honestly, I thought it was a lost cause after searching for days for a free ticket...I should have known to just place it into the hands of dad, aka, Smith family travel agent!
Merry Christmas, everyone!
