I'll Be The First To Share My Favorite Conference Talk
Elder Wirthlin: I loved his talk for many reasons. He started and ended his talk by asking the question "What quality defines us best as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?" He talked about contention among the members in Corinth. and then quoted Paul's message "nothing you do makes much of a difference if you do not have charity" He said that the measure of our love is the measure of the greatness of our souls. By reaching out, we fulfill half of the commandment to love thy neighbor as thyself. (Now the part that touched me most) As it became evident that something was wrong with Elder Wirthlin and he started to shake very badly, I asked your Dad if he thought he was going to fall or if someone was going to get up and help him. Just then Elder Nelson stood up and put a hand on Elder Wirthlin to let him know that someone was there and it assured us that everything was under control. As it turned out, Elder Wirthlin had locked knees and if you remember, Elder Nelson leaned over behind Elder Wirthlin and touched his knees gently to loosen the lock. With Elder Nelson there, I was able to concentrate on Elder Wirthlin's talk and thought how ironic that Elder Nelson was showing love and charity and the measure of the greatness of his soul. It doesn't take much to be able to show love and be charitable. We can't sit back and wonder if someone else is going to do it or be concerned about what others might think of us. I was touched by Elder Wirthlin's heartfelt "Thank You" after he finished his talk. It was heard by all that were listening (it won't be in the Ensign for recorded history) but will be ever in my mind of Elder Wirthlin's love and gratitude in his determination to finish his talk. In his talk, Elder Wirthlin said "love leads us to the glory and grandeur of eternal life." I loved the story he shared - - with pictures - - of a man whose wife was losing her sight and he would paint her fingernails 'because he loved to see her happy'. How sweet is that? He asked "Do you love the Lord? Spend time with Him. Latter-day saint love the Lord and we love our neighbors as ourselves". He said "That is our signature as a people." I'm anxious to be able to re-read his talk when the Ensign comes out. I like to reflect and self evaluate what the measure of my soul is. Great talk full of alot of doctrine. This one is on the top of my list of favorites and full of things for me to think about.

good talk Mom! How did you know he locked knees? Please come down to UTAH!!!
Janet, Thanks for that. That was one of my favorites too. It was so neat to hear Elder Wirthlins talk about love and to see Elder Nelson standing there and in a very simple way showing love. I had tears in my eyes through the whole talk. I like to think about the genuine love the apostles have for eachother and what an amazing bond they share.
Elder Wirthlin's talk will long be remembered I'm sure. I'm with Abbie tho, where did you learn about the locked knees? As mentioned in my original email, I seriously wondered if he'd be able to finish his talk.
We'll be deciding which talks to use for TFOT at Stake Council mtg tomorrow night and I plan to listen to all of the Priesthood talks today while I continue sorting and tossing. Slowly but surely I'm bringing order to matter unorganized....

To all interested about where I learned that Elder Wirthlin had locked knees - - I read it on the Deseret News website. I do remember Elder Nelson leaning over behind Elder Wirthlin and now realize it was to bend his knees. He probably recognized the symtems.
For some reason that was a talk I missed, but will definately go back and read it. They're in text online now FYI.
Em,
You should go on line and watch it so you can see Elder Nelso stand up etc. It's a great talk.
For anyone with similar plans, I was unable to listen/watch the Priesthood session talks. The only option was ASL and I couldn't get it to download. I read the summaries in last week's Church News and found this story particularly funny:
"Several weeks later, Elder Hallstrom said, he arrived home before going to evening Church meetings, having recently been called as stake president after several years as a bishop. "'There's something you need to see,' my wife, Diane said as I walked through the door. She handed me a bound book with a page marked. Glancing at the cover titled Noelani School's Favorites — 1985, I turned to the identified page and read 'Hallstrom Family, Favorite Recipe — Bacardi Rum Cake."'
*******
I'm bet it was very good but doubt the Hallstrom family had ever tasted it. That's a keeper.
