My new job is suuuuuuuuuuper cool. Seattle Hebrew Academy is in Interlaken Park in the heart of Seattle. Interlaken Park is a beautiful, dense forest minutes from downtown Seattle and the University of Washington. Every day when I drive to and from work, I feel so lucky to be in such a stunning place!
I'm teaching 18 wonderful 5th graders and 13 6th graders right now. They are very smart and full of personality. I love learning about the Jewish culture and being surrounded by it. Rosh Hashanah is Thursday, which means we have a 5 day weekend. (I don't think I've ever had one of those!) Yom Kippur is the following week, and then there are 2 more holidays following those. To make a long story short, we won't have a 5 day week until October 15. Yes...I took a massive pay cut, but I also took a HUGE cut in the hours I'm expected to work! Life is pretty sweet!
Today, there was a concert in the gym for Rosh Hashanah. The kids were all up dancing (folk dance style) and so were the Jewish teachers and parents! The Jewish people are very festive, expressive, and love to have fun. I'm learning so much, and having a blast!

Yay. I can already tell that this is going to be lots of fun. It was nice to hear more about what you're up to Em! This is going to be great.
It all sounds interesting and fun. You'll go through withdrawl when you have to work full time.
We're proud of you

Janet: I was confused as to your comment re: fulltime work. Looks to my like your new fulltime job will be commenting on all the blogs you read!!
Just jesting. Great work everyone. I'd recommended this to William a couple of years ago so family & friends could keep up with where in the world everyone is.

This is so cool you guys!
Emalei, this school looks really cool. I'm glad you're liking it, who wouldn't with that schedule:)
I can't wait to see what you guys are all up to.
Very interesting Emalei. When we lived in Ft. Lauderdale the public schools there got all the Jewish holidays off. I think your new job sounds so intriguing.
Hey there Em!
I was just asking Abbie and Dale about you tonight and the city of Seattle NEVER came up. They said you were at a jewish academy, but I assumed you were still in LA. Dang if I can't stay up to date on the Smith family. Congrats on the new school, it sounds great. So happy to see you guys have a blog, I enjoy blogs so much more than national or world news. Family news is so much happier. Can't wait to hear how it goes for you this year.
